Will My Income Affect My Mother's Application for Medicaid Home-Health Care?

  • November 10th, 2017
Q
When applying for community Medicaid so that I can keep my mother, who has late-stage Alzheimer's, in my home, the application asks for the income of each resident of the household. Will that affect her Medicaid eligibility?
A

It could. In general, Medicaid eligibility is based on household income. However, there may be waivers available for seniors in your state program. We recommend consulting with a local elder law attorney or social service agency that could provide you with a specific response for your situation and locale.
