What Happens If a Medicaid Recipient Moves in With Us?

My father-in-law is coming to live with his son and me. We own our home (in both our names) and have significant savings. Can Medicaid try to make a recoupment claim against us after my father-in-law's death?
A

No. Medicaid can only make a claim against the beneficiary’s estate. Family members have no legal or financial responsibility. (This is assuming that the beneficiary has not transferred funds or property to family members.) Learn more about estate recovery in this article.
