My family settled in Arkansas over 150 years ago.  I grew up in El Dorado and studied in Jonesboro and Memphis.  I have a B.A. and M.A. from Arkansas State University and J.D. from Memphis State University. I worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Services with Developmentally Disabled individuals for 12 years and with Aging and Adult Services for 10 years. Since 1997 my law practice has been located in Little Rock. My practice is limited to Elder Law, Special Needs Planning and Estate Planning.

I was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, in 1995, which helped form policies for aging issues for 20 years.  I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Arkansas Bar Association and the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association as well as a Charter Member of the Special Needs Alliance.  The Arkansas Gerontological Society named me a fellow of the organization in 2003.   I served on the Community Advisory Committee for the UAMS Alzheimer's Disease Center. 

A member of theArkansas Bar Association and past Chairman of the Elder Law Section, I recently served as Chairman and author for the Arkansas Elder Law Desk Manual published in 2013.

I have been AV® rated (highest category) byMartindale-Hubble® Attorney Peer Rating Systemfor legal ability and ethical standards since 2008.  The Arkansas Times named me the Best Lawyer in Arkansas for Elder Law since 2014.  Best Lawyers in America named me as one of the Best Elder Law Attorneys in America since 2014.

A frequent lecturer, I have been a presenter at the Arkansas Federal Tax Institute, the Mid-South Conference on Estate Planning, the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform in Washington, D.C., The Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, the Arkansas Bar Association, and numerous local events.
