United Seniors Health Council has published a new version of its useful guide for consumers considering purchasing long-term care insurance. The guide provides information on financial and family issues related to home care, assisted living, and nursing home care, as well as guidelines for purchasing long-term care insurance.

The guidebook counsels that consumers consider buying long-term care insurance only if they:

  • Own assets of at least $75,000 (excluding home and automobile);
  • Have annual retirement income of at least $25,000 for an individual and $35,000 for a couple;

  • Can absorb possible premium increases without financial difficulty.
