Albert John Salerno




Albert John Salerno (born Alberto) was born on August 23, 1922, in New Rochelle, New York to immigrant Italian parents. He was the first of his siblings to be born in the United States. He served honorably in the 8th Armored Division of the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Europe. Following his return from the war, Albert attended Columbia University on the G.I. Bill and graduated with honors with a degree in engineering. He married Vincentia Marie Sacco in 1948 and they had four children. At the time of Albert's death in 2003, the Salernos had been married for 54 years. They moved west to California where Albert worked for 39 years as a civil engineer in the Bridge Department of the California Department of Transportation. He retired in 1992. Albert was an avid and successful golfer, coming from a family of professional golfers. He passed away on January 28, 2003. His four children and two grandchildren survive him.
