Ms. Lewis is a dedicated elder law and estate planning attorney. Ms. Lewis provides legal advice to families applying for government programs when nursing home care or home care is imminent. Ms. Lewis represents caretakers wishing to be appointed as guardians and/or conservators for loved ones who are unable to manage financial or personal affairs. Ms. Lewis assists families by preparing Supplemental and Special Needs Trusts for persons with disabilities who will receive inheritances or personal injury settlements. Ms. Lewis assists clients by drafting wills and trusts and by planning to minimize estate taxes and probate expenses. Ms. Lewis coordinates estate planning with medical assistance planning. Ms. Lewis probates estates and aids families in the administration of trusts upon the death of a family member or loved one. Ms. Lewis also assists families resolve family conflicts because of long-term care planning or estate planning issues. Prior to practicing elder law, Ms. Lewis was a high school and business college teacher and a business owner. She has published two research articles, "Fifty ways to Exploit Your Grandmother: The Status of Financial Abuse of the Elderly in Minnesota" and "Pain Management for the Elderly." Ms. Lewis is a frequent presenter at Minnesota Continuing Legal Education on the topics of medical assistance eligibility and reimbursement to the State of Minnesota of benefits provided through the medical assistance program. She has taught Elder Law at Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota.
