Jan Browns law firm, Jan L. Brown & Associates, practices in the areas of elder law, estate planning and estate administration. Prior to opening her firm, she worked with national healthcare and insurance companies, including Humana and Cigna. Ms. Brown is a member of the Dauphin, Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bar Associations. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Associations Elder Law Committee and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She was an active member of the Pennsylvanias Attorney Generals Task Force for the Protection of Older Pennsylvanians and was the Chairperson for the Dauphin County Area on Aging Agency Advisory Board for four years. Currently she is on the Board of Directors for the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimers Association and on the Advisory Board for Preferred Choice Hospice Foundation. Jan was awarded the 50 Best Business Women in the state of Pennsylvania in the year 2000. Jan teaches the Apprise program coordinated at the request of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. Jan is the Pennsylvania Attorney Generals expert witness in the States action against fraudulent estate planning and Living Trusts sale practices. Nominated by the Department of Aging and serves on Pennsylvanias First Summit on End of Life to represent Pennsylvanias older persons interests. She received her B.A. from American University in Washington, D.C. and her J.D. from George Mason University in Virginia. She frequently lectures on elder law and estate planning issues for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. She has testified before the House of Aging and Youth Committee and meets with legislators regarding issues concerning treatment of seniors and their families. She also speaks regularly to healthcare and community groups. Jan has served on the faculty for Temple University and Penn State University geriatric and healthcare administration graduate programs and for the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.
